Candlelight March
Let's make our voices heard!
This is going to be a GREAT event for peace and justice this holiday season: a mile-long candlelit march from the Towson Lynching Memorial to the Christmas Tree, with inspiring speakers fighting for FAIR MAPS to boot. There may even be hot cider and cookies at the end! Don't miss it!
WHEN: Tuesday, December 7, 4:30-5:45 pm.
WHAT: March & vigil for fair maps in Towson
WHERE: Meet us at the Lynching Memorial in Towson, 222 Courthouse Court, Towson, MD 21204
To highlight the importance of reckoning with the county's racist past, we will rally at the Lynching Memorial at the Old Baltimore County Jail in remembrance of Howard Cooper, a fifteen-year-old Black child who was lynched there in 1885, where we will hear some brief remarks by a guest speaker. Then we will march through Towson carrying vigil lights and a banner demanding that our elected representatives Uphold the Voting Rights Act and Stop Diluting the Minority Vote and leave “Our Holiday Wish for Fair Maps" at the County Christmas tree at the Towson Circle (also known as Olympic Park). The march concludes at the triangle park next to the Baltimore Avenue Garage, which the Maryland Lynching Memorial Project hopes to re-christen as Truth & Reconciliation Park.
The march route is below. Signs and candles will be provided! Can't wait to see you there!
Sign up for the March here. This event is endorsed by LWV Balimore County and by the Baltimore County Coalition for Fair Maps .
