Members are the League’s most valuable asset. Our strong grassroots system distinguishes the League from other organizations. The League is the organization whose members are hands-on in safeguarding democracy and creating civic improvement.Nationwide there are more than 700 Leagues (15 in Maryland) and 500,000 members. As a member, you have access to events, webinars, publications, and the combined efforts of half a million members nationwide who work to advocate for social and economic justice for all.

Who we are
We are nonpartisan, which is important for effective voter services and a wide base of support. We do not endorse or oppose candidates for public office, but advocate on issues chosen by the consensus of the membership. We acknowledge that political parties are essential to the American system of government and that participation is beneficial to our political system. Therefore, the League encourages its members to be active in the political process as individuals, including supporting candidates for public office as well as seeking election to public office.
